PRIMA Adds New Training Feature to Its Online University

June 22, 2007, Alexandria, VA—The Public Risk Management Association (PRIMA) is proud to announce the launch of a new employee safety training feature to its Online University, which offers training for risk management, safety and human resources/employee benefits professionals in the public sector. This new training feature is provided by the University’s first innovation training partner, the National Institute for Workplace Safety (NIWS).

NIWS offers more than 140 training courses including: workplace safety, ergonomics, defensive driving, first aid, OSHA compliance, emergency planning and disaster issues, leadership and sexual harassment. Courses are available in both English and Spanish.

“I think the benefits of online training are innumerable,” said PRIMA President Bill Kostner, MBA, ARM-P. “Our Online University allows public risk management, safety and human resources/employee benefit professionals to take courses specially selected to meet their training needs. By utilizing online learning, managers can reduce travel costs to their entity while allowing their staff to train any time, any where.”

Though the site is available to all professionals, PRIMA members receive a 10 percent discount on courses. Each training course combines the latest in adult learning with the industry’s most comprehensive and effective online training portal. Each lesson also contains a test to measure and document course comprehension.

“Another great benefit of the online university is that it allows managers to simplify and streamline their recordkeeping,” said Kostner. “Risk and benefits managers can train, track and schedule training from their desktop, and they have a record of safety training in the event of an incident.”

PRIMA’s Online University can be found by visiting and clicking on the Education & Training tab and following the link to PRIMA’s Online University. Interested students can view three free class demonstrations by simply clicking ‘Free Real Time Demo’ on the right hand tool bar on the University’s landing page.

The Association’s mission is to promote effective risk management in the public interest as an essential component of public administration. Headquartered in Alexandria, VA, PRIMA is the largest risk management association dedicated solely to the practice of risk management in the public sector. PRIMA’s membership is made up of more than 2,000 entities in over 1,800 jurisdictions.
