June 13, 2007, BOSTON, MA—The Public Risk Management Association (PRIMA) welcomed its new president, Bill Kostner, MBA, ARM-P, at its annual membership luncheon, held today during the Association's 2007 Annual Conference in Boston. He steps into the role of president after serving on PRIMA's board of directors for several years. Kostner has also participated in PRIMA committees, including external affairs, finance and conference planning.
"I think this is a very exciting time for the risk management profession and I'm thrilled to be PRIMA's new leader," said Kostner. "I appreciate the trust that PRIMA's members have put in me, and I look forward to making PRIMA an even better and stronger association."
During his presidency, Kostner aims to increase PRIMA's membership to reflect a greater number of public entities, expand and enhance PRIMA's learning opportunities for public sector risk managers and increase the Association's visibility among its base of public entities.
"To earn our seat at the table as a leader in public sector risk management, we must be visible and vocal on a number of issues," said Kostner. "With the assistance of PRIMA's members, I hope to make this a reality for the Association."
In addition to being very active in PRIMA, Kostner is the risk manager for the City of Lincoln, NE, a position he has held for nearly 12 years. He heads up the Risk Management and Benefits Division of the Personnel Department, which administers claims, insurance, training, loss control, employee benefits and wellness programs for the City of Lincoln, Lancaster County and the Lincoln Electric System.
Kostner also teaches human resources and regulatory compliance classes as an adjunct professor at Doane College.
Kostner will lead the Association of more than 2,000 public entities and oversee its nine-person board of directors until June 2008, at which time he will assume the role of past-president on the Association's board.
